Centre-Based Day Care provides a structured small-group environment for frail aged older people. Centre-Based Day Care is designed to develop, maintain or support independent living and social interaction. Centre-Based Day Care includes the social support provided in a group environment, transport associated with getting to the group, light refreshments and personal assistance involved in attendance at the centre.
The emphasis of the group is social interaction, with group members welcome to choose what activities they wish to participate in during their time. A variety of activities, as well as guest speakers from the community are included frequently in the program. The program is designed to meet the needs of people with mild to moderate dementia.
Kiama Council Community Support operates a Centre-Based Day Care group (The Seaside Group) on Mondays and Thursdays during school terms. The group operates from 10am – 1.30pm. Morning tea and lunch are provided. The group is run by a paid Coordinator with the support of local volunteers.
Centre-Based Day Care is for older people with low to medium support needs living in the Kiama Local Government Area. Priority of access is given to people with mild to moderate dementia
