Ranger services

Council’s Ranger Services Section administers the coordination, implementation and monitoring of regulatory activities in relation to animal management, parking, environmental protection, community nuisances, Council policies and community education on companion animal management.

Some current activities are:

• putting in place a Plan of Management for Companion Animals
• following up animal issues such as registration of companion animals, barking and roaming dogs, straying cattle
• reviewing off-leash areas for dogs around the Municipality
• impounding unauthorised signs
• managing and controlling abandoned vehicles, shopping trolleys and other items
• investigating and controlling all environmental complaints and environmental offences
• educating the community on issues relating to the environment, companion animals and on-street parking
• assisting with Clean Up Australia Day
• managing on-street parking throughout the Municipality.

Kiama Council provides parking at a variety of locations across the Local Government Area for community use. Most of it is free, but some of it, particularly in town centres must comply with regulations (pdf 70Kb) or face the ignominy of a parking ticket. The Council also provides a map of parking in the Kiama Town Centre (pdf 110Kb) for your perusal.

All parking rules and regulations are set out in the Australian Road Rules, which was introduced in December 1999. A guide has been produced from the Roads and Traffic Authority to assist road users and is available from any Motor Registry. The Australian Road Rules are available from the Roads and Traffic Authority.
